The Pasadena Playhouse will kick off its 2021-22 season with a reimagining of Head Over Heels, the musical comedy featuring the hits of the The Go-Go’s. EMP client, composer and songwriter, Charlotte Caffey, is a founding member of the iconic band.
“This Head Over Heels, running Nov. 9 through Dec. 12, won’t be a replica of Michael Mayer’s 2018 Broadway production, which sets songs like “Our Lips Are Sealed,” “Vacation” and “Mad About You” to the story of Philip Sidney’s 16th-century prose poem “Arcadia.” Instead, the Playhouse staging trims the running time to an intermission-less 90 minutes (while keeping the majority of the songs intact) and swaps a medieval setting for that of a concert not unlike the shows that made the band a mainstay of the Los Angeles punk rock scene. And it will put the audience at the center of the action, with immersive and interactive elements.” – LA Times
Directed, choreographed and conceived by Jenny Koons and Sam Pinkleton, the reimagined Head Over Heels will consist of a cast of eight accompanied by a five-piece band, and will be performed in a space with traditional theater seating, couches onstage and a standing-room area for audience members to dance throughout the show.
This has been a huge year for Charlotte! In addition to Head Over Heels returning to the stage, the Go-Go’s will be inducted into the prestigious Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in October.
