Murray Gold is returning to score the much anticipated second season of Sally Wainwright’s hit series Gentleman Jack, which premieres on HBO and BBC One in April.
Set in 1832 in Yorkshire, Gentleman Jack is a romantic period dramatization of the life of LGBTQ+ trailblazer, industrialist, and voracious learner Anne Lister (Suranne Jones), who is determined to transform the fate of her faded ancestral home Shibden Hall. The series is based on the collected diaries of Lister, which contain over four million words and are written largely in secret code, documenting a lifetime of lesbian relationships. Gold’s sly score deftly pays tribute to the period while at the same time projecting a totally modern feel.
Murray is also set to score Dead Ringers for Amazon Prime Video. Dead Ringers is a modern take on David Cronenberg’s cult classic thriller starring Jeremy Irons, featuring Rachel Weisz (who is also producing the series) playing the double lead role of Elliot and Beverly Mantle, twins who share everything: drugs, lovers, and an unapologetic desire to do whatever it takes, including pushing the boundaries on medical ethics in an effort to challenge antiquated practices and bring women’s healthcare to the forefront.
