Dangerous Animals, directed by Sean Byrne and featuring a mind-blowing score by Michael Yezerski, has made its premiere in the Director’s Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival to great audience and critical acclaim (flying at 83% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes), and is now open in theaters!
Byrne’s film follows Zephyr (Hassie Harrison), a free-spirited surfer who is abducted by Tucker (Jai Courtney) a shark-obsessed serial killer. Held captive on Tucker’s boat, Zephyr must outwit both her captor and the hungry sharks circling below to escape. Yezereski used a large orchestra complemented by some novel use of electronics, turning the genre on its ear by highlighting the beauty of the sharks and leaving the most of the menace with our truly crazed human villain.
