Federico Albanese

Federico Albanese

Composer

Federico Albanese is a genre-defying Italian musician, composer, multi-instrumentalist, and producer with a musical versatility that pushes him to explore music in all its facets. Albanese’s cinematic instrumental tracks, blending contemporary, classical, pop, and electronic ambience, strike an instant chord for their airy, meditative beauty.

Federico’s new album entitled “Blackbirds and the Sun of October” was released in 2025 by Mercury KX, Decca’s genre-defying, multi-disciplinary imprint, home to composers and innovative musicians such as Jonny Greenwood, Anoushka Shankar, and Ólafur Arnalds, whom he supported in one of the first performances of his solo-piano career, at the Norfolk & Norwich festival in 2015.

Albanese’s musical journey has been more extensive than most. His genre-fusing piano soundscapes, which in addition to his piano incorporate guitar, bass, violin and electronica, include folk, punk, electronic, modern and contemporary classical music influences; he cites Edith Piaf, Miles Davis, Captain Beefheart, Robert Wyatt, Traffic and Television as a few favorites. “My inspiration has always come from things from the past that sometimes have nothing to do with instrumental music at all. I think Television’s Marquee Moon is probably the best record of all time. When I’m stuck on something, I listen to these guys who did marvelous things without thinking too much, like the krautrock band Can or Faust. They were pushing boundaries, doing things that nobody else was doing. That’s what drives me. That’s what I try to do, and that’s why that attitude is so important to me.”

Albanese has scored television, ballet, fashion shows, advertising, and most of all cinema, including 2019’s feature length documentary “The Twelve”, about spiritual traditions through the perspectives of 12 elders from 12 communities around the world. The Twelve allowed him to push himself once again, as he composed using instruments from where the elders originated from. He recently scored Amazon’s Prime major feature “Autumn Beat” (2022) by Antonio Dikele Distefano. His music has been synced and used in multiple productions such as HBO’s “Generation” (2021), Netflix’s “Last Chance U: Basketball” (2022) and many more.

In 2023 he scored Iranian/British director Sasha Nathwani’s debut film “Last Swim” which won the Crystal Bear at the 2024 Berlinale.

The same year he scored Simone Godano’s new feature film entitled “Sei Fratelli” starring Riccardo Scamarcio, Adriano Giannini, Valentina Bellé. Albanese concludes “professionally I grew up as a touring artist, making records, going on tour, and I bring all of that experience into making film scores as well. I want my soundtracks to feel like a record that is being released by the director and me.”
