Buddy is a hit! Including plenty of buzz for its original score by Michael Yezerski.
The film, from writer-director Casper Kelly, starring Cristin Milioti, Keegan-Michael Key, Topher Grace, Michael Shannon, and Patton Oswalt premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival before its current theatrical release.
Yezerski’s score covers a lot of ground brilliantly, weaving the Buddy show’s kid’s music with shock, horror, and unexpected laughs. It’s a tightrope that both the film and the score navigate to great effect.
As Anastasia Elfman from Dread Central shares in her three spoiler-free reasons to watch: “Number two, a killer score. I’m a massive fan of original cinematic scores like Jerry Goldsmith’s Total Recall and Danny Elfman’s A Nightmare Before Christmas, rather than boring and distracting source music.
