His Three Daughters, scored by Rodrigo Amarante, is out now in select theaters and will be available to stream on Netflix September 20th. The film, written and directed by Azazel Jacobs, had its world premiere at Sundance 2023.
His Three Daughters is a tense, captivating, and touching portrait of family dynamics starring Carrie Coon, Elizabeth Olsen, and Natasha Lyonne as sisters who converge after their father’s health decline. Variety lauded the film (which has a 99% Rotten Tomatoes score) as “funny, moving and true” and “the work of a filmmaker who has finally come into his own. Jacobs was always gifted, now he is major.”
Amarante, perhaps best known for his melancholy theme song ”Tuyo” from the Netflix series Narcos, or his work with the band Little Joy (with Fab Moretti and Binky Shapiro) delivers a subtle yet influential small ensemble score highlighted at the ending by the presentation of the original song “In Time” which appears in an instrumental version earlier in the film. The Original Soundtrack Album, released by Sony/Milan, features In Time, the score, and two additional songs imagined by Rodrigo in conversations with the film’s director Azazel Jacobs.
