Craig DeLeon

Craig DeLeon

Composer

Bronx-born Craig DeLeon has been composing original music since he first heard Prince’s “I Wanna Be Your Lover” at age 8.  Although he started his career as a filmmaker, today DeLeon is a fast-rising composer whose work displays a range, sensitivity, and inventiveness that is gaining him wide notice.

DeLeon burst onto the scene with his score to the Apple+ limited series The Last Days of Ptolomey Grey, produced by and starring Samuel L. Jackson. The score employed electronics and live musicians in a post-modern classical setting to provide a brilliantly surreal aspect to the series. He is currently scoring the Netflix limited series A Man in Full, produced by David E Kelly and directed by Regina King, and recently composed a mind-bending score for the upcoming Miramax feature thriller Strange Darling directed by JT Mollner. His recent credits also include the Amblin/Paramount+ blockbuster Fatal Attraction, starring Lizzy Kaplan and Joshua Jackson. That score features a modern, noir-ish, blend of modular synths combined with acoustic piano.

DeLeon is the composer of the Netflix action/thriller End of the Road which stars Queen Latifah, Ludacris and Beau Bridges and he’s just wrapped working with director Joe Carnahan and Lionsgate on another action feature, Shadow Force, which stars Mark Strong and Kerry Washington. In a total change of pace, he is also scoring his second season of the WB animated series Velma, produced by and starring Mindy Kaling. He’s also composed two compelling scores to documentaries by the director Karan Gill. The first was Showtime’s Supervillain: The Making of Tekashi 6ix9ine, followed by Amazon’s Untrapped: The Story of Lil Baby. Both scores challenge the orthodoxy of what type of score makes sense for a story based in the world of rap. He also worked with Labrinth and Sia to score Sia’s directorial debut, the Golden Globe-nominated feature Music.

DeLeon began his career at the legendary production company Propaganda Films as an assistant to director Spike Jonze. His brief at Propaganda included creating concepts for music videos with a director roster that included David Fincher, Antoine Fuqua, Michel Gondry, and Michael Bay. As a composer and creative director with music collective Human, DeLeon continued to tell stories with music in the advertising space, with music featured in ads for Apple, Nike, American Express, Adidas, Xbox, Microsoft, and Google. He won the Best Original Music CLIO for his APPLE TV ad campaign. He lives in Los Angeles with his two children.
